The process of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal is gradually making people become hopeless since the court has faced many problems again and again. For instance, a senior KRT’s official has recently said that the funds for the KR Tribunal would have run out by April, 2008. Moreover, so far, there has not been any Cambodian or foreign lawyer registering at the KRT although the problem of foreign lawyer registration fee was solved. Read the rest of this entry »

Sala Krao-Pailin: While the Co-Prosecutors of the Khmer Rouge (KR) Tribunal had already filed the Introductory Submission against 5 former KR leaders, Nuon Chea, former president of the National Assembly of the Democratic Kampuchea Regime, said—when he met us last week—that Khmers should stop making enemy with each other in order that Khmers would not be separated and the nation and the people would not be devastated. The ECCC is today officially handing over the key, as a symbol of authority over the ECCC Detention Facility, to the Deputy General Director of the General Department of Prisons of the Ministry of Interior, H.E. At least seven former Khmer Rouge leaders will stand before upcoming trials for crimes against humanity in the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC). According to Stephen Heder, political scientist and researcher of the Cambodian history, seven former Khmer Rouge candidates who will be brought to justice in the Khmer Rouge Tribunal are Nuon Chea, Ieng Sary, Khieu Samphan, Sou Met, Meah Mut, and other two Ta Mok and Kae Pok, who already died of illnesses.
